How Soon After Giving Birth Does Hair Loss Occur? What About Birth Control Pills?

I have a three month old and my hair has just started to fall out. I started taking Kariva about 3 weeks ago. I am not sure if my hair loss is due to the hormone changes from giving birth, or if it is from the birth control pill. If it is the birth control then I will discontinue to take it.

Postpartum hair loss is quite common and it does usually occur about 3 months after delivery. The shedding could last 6-9 months. During pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period the hormones go through a lot of different changes which the body must adjust to. The hormones may still be trying to get back into balance. Adding birth control creates another hormonal change that the body must adjust to.
For some women birth control corrects a hair loss problem. For others it creates a hair loss problem. And for many it has no effect at all on hair growth.

    my baby is now 6 months old. my hair started to fall out at when she was around 3 months too. also, i’m not on birth control

    Hi there! I have heard of issues like this before in my family, so here’s my “two cents”:
    Hair loss that is connected to pregnancy usually occurs after delivery. During pregnancy, an increased number of hairs go into the resting phase, which is part of the normal hair loss cycle. This condition is not serious enough to cause bald spots or permanent hair loss, and should begin to diminish within 3-4 months after delivery. If you feel that you are experiencing unusual hair loss while you are pregnant, this may be due to a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

    Typically just the hormonal imbalance. It sometimes corrects itself. There are a ton of products out there in case of a problem.

    My hair did not fall out after giving birth. It fell out the first couple of months I was pregnant. Ask your doctor about your hair loss to see if it has anything to do with post pregnancy or bc.

    It’s just hormones. I lost hair for about a year after I had my daughter.

    Hi a had my baby girl in April ad my hair just staring to fall ut is that normal??????
